Pier Wisconsin

Pier Wisconsin is a multifunctional building located on the lakeshore in downtown Milwaukee. This facility contains a museum and aquarium, and also serves as home base for a replica wooden sailing ship.

The floor elevation of the basement is approximately 10 feet below the Lake Michigan surface. Edgerton Contractors, Inc. excavated for this structure utilizing the steel sheet pile wall on two sides and a bentonite clay cutoff trench on the other sides to keep lake water from entering the excavation. Much of the soil was contaminated and required special handling and disposal at a landfill.
